Wood Species Selection
CHERRY: Cherry, characterized by its fine, uniform grain patterns, is most often finished in a dark red or brown color. All cherry products will darken somewhat with age due to exposure to sun or artificial light. Color varies from almost white to light brown to pinkish red, giving it a wider variation in color than most people realize.
HICKORY: Hickory is a close-grained wood that is known to have wide variations in colors due to mineral depostis. These color variations will range from white to chocolate brown and black. Hickory wood is often used as an alternative to oak for consumers who prefer an open-grained wood with colorful, natural variations.
MAPLE: Hard maple is a close-grained wood that is predominately white in color. A traditional favorite of cabinet makers, hard maple is well known for its strength and shock resistance. Due to its close graining, maple is usually stained in a light color and provides the consumer with a very contemporary look in a wood product.
OAK: The most traditional and commonly used wood species in cabinetry is oak, a strong, open-grained wood that ranges in color from salmon-pink to almost white. Known for its distinctive open graining and attractive price, there are normal variations in the color of oak which are to be expected in cabinetry.
THERMOFOIL: These cabinets are MDF or composite materials with vinyl overlays pressure bonded to the wood to provide an attractive, low-maintenance alternative to hardwood cabinetry. Durable and resistant to stains and scratches.
